Hi Everyone!

Hope you’re ready for a great semester. For those of you new to photography, the blog is going to be a great resource for you. On the left you’ll find a huge range of links that you can use for reference throughout the semester, your student blogs will also be listed there soon. I’ll be posting new things all semester, some will include homework assignments, others will be news, events or just some fun photo info. If you find an interesting article or website, please email it to me and I’ll add it to the blog for everyone to take a look !

So, be sure to bookmark the blog and check it often. Be sure to check out the work of Nina Katchadourian, here. She will be visiting this Spring and conducting a workshop (there’s still room to register if you’d like to take part) I’m looking forward to an exciting semester!

Ximena Mora’s photography exhibit ‘Fragments’ will be opening, the art club zine will debut and Leigh and Neal will discuss their recent trip to the NADA art fair. The fun starts Saturday at 4:30pm and there will be food and wine to enjoy!

The Art Club will be creating a zine by the end of the semester. WHAT’S A ZINE YOU SAY?

A zine is basically a hand made ‘magazine’, with arts and farts. So we wanna make a zine, and are asking all of you to submit something inspired by our theme.

The theme of the Zine is VARIANCE.

Okay so please submit any visual art which you make for this theme.

Submit something that is:

- Drawing, collage, photo, photoshop, comics, whatever basically.

- To be reproduced in black and white

- Scanned

– line drawings should be scanned as a Bitmap at 600 DPI

– Most everything else should be scanned as a Grayscale of 300

– Digital files should be 800 pix

- It will be reproduced at about W 5.5 in x H 8.5 in.

- Email it to Harry Kuttner

- Submissions are due Monday, December 5.

You may submit as much stuff as you want.

PHOTO CLASSES THIS SPRING

ART 330, Advanced photo will be offered in the Spring as a FULL course (no more stacking!) In conjunction with what’s being seen as a resurgence of film and alternative processes in photography, the topic of the course is Color Film Photography. Technically that means we will shoot with film cameras, have the film developed (by Walgreens or Burne) and then scan the negatives to work with them digitally. We will work with 35mm and 120mm film and do some polaroid transfers! Get ready for disposable cameras, holgas and TLRs. So if you need some more photo in your life, the time slot is T/TH 1:00-3:50pm.

Also, there will be two sections of Intro to Digital Photography. It will be offered at 9:oo- 11:50 and 7:10 – 10:00pm on T/TH.
