Larry Sultan, California Photographer, Dies at 63

Larry Sultan, a highly influential California photographer whose 1977 collaboration, “Evidence” — a book made up solely of pictures culled from vast industrial and government archives — became a watershed in the history of art photography, died on Sunday at his home in Greenbrae, Calif. Back for its 13th edition, Paris Phototakes over the Carrousel du Louvre to present 19th-century, modern, and contemporary photography by 102 exhibitors, including 89 galleries and 13 publishers from 23 countries. With special exhibitions of Arab and Iranian photography, the BMW Prize for the best artist represented by a gallery at the fair, and a spotlight on young talent, Paris Photo offers the opportunity to explore a common history and photography now.

Submit photos to the photography exchange blog, it is a blog set up with multiple colleges encouraging student discussion around photography. You can submit your own photographs to the blog and potentially get comments from students across the states. The instructions for uploading your photographs are listed below, make sure to CC me on the email so I know you have submitted work. 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING WORK: 

Send an email to Adriane Little at photographyexchange@gmail.com with the information requested

• The email subject field should have your school’s name and photo exchange so that I know it is not junk mail – example: WMU Photo Exchange

For Photographs

Inside the email:
• Your First and Last Name
• The class you are taking – example Art 210 Digital Photo
• Medium – examples: silver print, digital print, installation still
• Size of the actual/physical image
• If image is in a series – how many images are there in total
• Optional – 100 word max statement about the work which will help to start a discussion about your image(s)
• website address if you have a personal website
• Attach 1-2 images, preferably 2 images from the same series
• Adjust image size to 418 pixels on longest side at 72 dpi
• Then use the save for the web function to prepare the image for the web – jpg
• Make sure that the image is under 75k so that the page loads quickly.
